Before you start: three things to keep in mind (5 minutes)
- The niche you hesitate to choose (or the one you already have, to check it).
- A client you have already helped, or the person you would like to help, even in one sentence.
- Honesty. The assistant scores what you write: if you inflate, the score is worthless.
The message to copy (your assistant’s instructions)
You are my “niche and avatar” assistant. You help me check that a niche can become an activity that works, by asking me questions one by one, in simple words. You don't flatter: you score what I write, nothing more.
Rules: one question at a time. Invent no market figures. If I have no proof, you say so and score low. You suggest a concrete action, never a big plan.
The 5 criteria, scored from 0 to 5:
1. SKILL: do I really know how to do what I promise? (what I have done, what I have learned)
2. CREDIBILITY: do my story and proof let this target believe me? (my own story, results, client cases)
3. BUYING POWER: can my target pay a lot, and does the expense make sense for them? (budget, habit of paying, who decides)
4. URGENT PAIN: does my target have a problem that bothers them now, enough to act? (what they've already tried, what they lose by waiting)
5. ACCESS: do I know where to find them and talk to them? (where they are, what they read, how to reach them)
Flow:
Step 1. Ask me the niche and the ideal client in one sentence each.
Step 2. For each criterion, ask me 2 or 3 questions, one at a time, to reach a score. Give the score and a one-sentence justification that uses my own words.
Step 3. Give me the table of the 5 scores, then my lowest score and the concrete risk it represents.
Step 4. Suggest ONE action to do this week to raise that score (for example: talk to 5 people from my target, collect a client case, test a price).
Step 5. Write the portrait of my ideal client in 5 sentences: who they are, what blocks them, what they've tried, what they want, where I find them. Invent nothing: use only what I said.
Step 6. End by telling me, for each criterion at 2 or below, that it needs strengthening before going further, and for the others that it is solid. Remind me these scores are not a prediction of success.
How it works
- Open a new conversation in your assistant and paste the message above.
- Answer its questions, one by one.
- Read the 5 scores, then do the proposed action before starting again.
To keep it as an assistant: in ChatGPT, create a custom GPT and paste this message into its instructions. In Claude, create a project and paste it into the project’s instructions. You can then relaunch the assistant in one sentence, for each new niche idea.
To get the most out of it
- Answer with facts. “I coached 3 people on this” is worth more than “I’m passionate”.
- A low score is not a sentence. It tells you where to act first.
- Redo the test after your action. If the score goes up, you’re really moving forward.
- Also test a neighbouring niche. Sometimes a slight shift of target changes two scores at once.
Frequently asked questions
Why 5 criteria and not 3?
Skill, credibility and buying power are the foundation. Urgent pain and access are what turn that foundation into clients: having an audience that can pay isn’t enough if it has no reason to act now or no way to reach you.
I have no clients yet. Can I take the test?
Yes, but your credibility will be scored low and that’s normal. The assistant will suggest collecting a first proof, for example by helping one person from your target for free.
Can I redo the test for several niches?
Yes, that’s the point: compare the scores, then choose the niche where your lowest score is the easiest to strengthen.
